The West Palm Beach Alumnae chapter was officially chartered on February 17, 1948, as Gamma Pi Sigma chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Our charter members are (pictured left to right) Alberta Drayton*, Lillian Drayton, Lillian Nixon*, Millie G. Brown*, Altamese Jenkins* and Fannie Cousins*. Maxine Bright-Davies*, a charter member of the Beta Zeta Sigma Chapter (now Miami Alumnae) was present to assist in the installation ceremony along with her fellow chapter members Frances Tucker and Lonnie Fannin. Frances Tucker presided over the installation. Altamese Jenkins served as the first president.
The chapter has grown from six members to over two hundred active members. Additional chapters have been established in Belle Glade (Glades Alumnae) Delray (South Palm Beach County Alumnae) and Boca Raton (Xi Epsilon at Florida Atlantic University). Our chapter is a part of the Southern Region. Visit Delta Sigma Theta's Southern Region website at www.dstsouthernregion.com and of course, we're a part of our national body.
